What is PDF/R?
PDF/R, short for "PDF for Raster Images," is a specialized subset of the Portable Document Format (PDF) designed for multi-page documents primarily composed of raster images, such as scanned documents. It conforms to the PDF Association's PDF/Raster 1.0 specification and follows the guidelines set by ISO 23504-1:2020, titled "Document management applications — Raster image transport and storage — Part 1: Use of ISO 32000 (PDF/R-1)."
The "R" in PDF/R stands for "raster."
This format is crafted for efficient creation and handling on low-end, low-memory embedded devices, particularly scanners, simplifying the incorporation of raster image content into the PDF framework.
