What are page labels?
Page labels serve as descriptive markers to aid in navigation within lengthy documents.
Common conventions include Roman numerals for front matter (i, ii, iii, iv, etc.), uppercase letters for appendices (A.1, A.2, etc.), or chapter/page combinations like 1-1, 1-2, 2-1, 2-2.
In PDF terminology, these markers are known as page labels, offering optional descriptive information for on-screen presentation. This differs from the internal integer-based page indexing within PDF files.
